The Shining of Light is the story of the oldest Wesley Foundation in the South and the first denominational campus ministry at the University of Tennessee. It traces the 85 years of the Wesley Foundation from its 1922 beginning at Church Street United Methodist Church in Knoxville to the present—through the years of the Great Depression, World War II, the growth of the Methodist Student Movement in the 1950s, the era of tumult and protest in the 1960s to the present new world on the campus. A gift of the author to the Wesley Foundation, the book is the centerpiece of the 2008 Bob Parrott Endowment Campaign, in support of the campus ministry’s facility at 1718 Melrose Place, Knoxville.

Robert E. (Bob) Parrott was the minister-director of the Wesley Foundation at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville for 29 years. He received his theological education at Perkins School of Theology, S.M.U., Dallas Texas; Vanderbilt Divinity School, Nashville, Tennessee; Union Theological Seminary, New York. He was the recipient of the 2007 Francis Asbury Award for Fostering United Methodist Ministries in Higher Education. Bob and his wife Donna are the parents of two children and the grandparents of four, including a set of triplets.
