The Spark Initiative offers young adults the opportunity to experience how Christianity can inform all aspects of their lives, helping them to identify, articulate, and use their gifts and talents for ministry regardless of how they earn a living.
Wesley At-Large Community-Based Internships
Following an application and interview process, three students per semester will receive a stipend of $850 to spend 8-10 hours per week, 12 weeks per semester, interning with congregations or social service agencies. The student and his or her supervisor will negotiate a contract based on the needs of the agency as well as the learning objectives of the student, spend 45 minutes a week processing their experiences with that supervisor, and sharing with the other interns in a bi-monthly meeting.
An application for these internships may be downloaded here. Please submit completed applications to Tim Kobler or Heather Godsey at the Wesley Foundation office.
Alternative Spring Break
Students will be exposed to a variety of domestic and global issues on spring break trips. While there will be work involved in these trips, we will also focus on contextual education before the trip in order to help students invest deeply in the work. Theological reflection both during and after the experience will help students connect their own faith narratives to the community they are serving.
